The Position
CSIRO Land and Water now welcomes applications for a PhD top-up scholarship to investigate new approaches to testing and validating predictions of biodiversity change over space and time.

This PhD will harness the best spatiotemporal biodiversity data from around the world to develop and apply consistent and repeatable approaches to assessing the validity of temporal predictions made by alternative biodiversity modelling techniques. This research will play a crucial role in improving our understanding of the reliability of biodiversity predictions, and form a strong basis for the development of better biodiversity modelling techniques.

Specifically you will have:
• An Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or equivalent and be enrolled as a PhD student at an Australian university (candidates applying for an APA in 2015 should register their interest as soon as possible).

Location: Negotiable

Salary: $7,000 per annum top-up stipend plus a generous operating budget

Tenure: 3 years

Reference: 4863

You will be assessed on:
• The primary assessment for the Postgraduate Scholarship is the quality and relevance of the project being proposed. The research must be complementary to, and clearly aligned with, the advertised research topic.
• Academic calibre of the student: The quality of the student is also critical to the assessment of a scholarship and candidates must hold (or expect to gain) a relevant degree from a recognised university.
• Availability of appropriate university supervision: The relevance of the university supervisor's research background and their willingness to supervise the student in partnership with the CSIRO supervisor should also be made clear.
