Job description

In this role you will work closely with Project Managers in support of a growing list of projects in Canada and abroad. This is an excellent career opportunity to work with an expert consulting team on challenging environmental projects for large mining, industrial and global clients.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Plan, design and lead the execution of hydrogeology field programs in remote locations;
• Develop and provide senior review of numerical groundwater models;
• Lead preparation of EAs/EIS deliverables and associated management plans in compliance with provincial/territorial/federal requirements, serving in the role of technical lead and quality review;
• Prepare technical proposals, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates for hydrogeology programs;
• Participate in business development with existing and new clients, and maintain client relationships to support repeat business;
• Coordinate with drilling, laboratory contractors and equipment suppliers, while mobilizing for field programs;
• Supervise drilling operations, including diamond drilling, packer testing;
• Assist with and supervise downhole geophysical testing;
• Supervise installation of vibrating wire piezometers;
• Install, develop, test, and sample monitoring wells using industry standard and cutting edge methodologies as appropriate;
• Design and operate Westbay systems;
• Conduct analysis of the collected packer test-, slug test-, and pump/aquifer test data using standard software (like Aqtesolv);
• Process the chemical laboratory reports, including calculating relative percent difference, charge balance error, preparing box and whisker charts, Piper diagrams, developing report tables, including statistical summaries;
• Become a subject matter expert to contribute to ERMs Project Liability Analysis for remote site access and egress;
• Mentor junior consulting staff to develop their skill sets in hydrogeology.


REQUIREMENTS:
• 10+ years of hydrogeology consulting experience directly related to environmental permitting for mining projects and/or experience at an operating mine;
• P.Eng./P.Geo. registration in Canadian jurisdiction(s); and
• BASc/MASc/MSc in civil or environmental engineering, earth sciences, or equivalent related field;
• Comfort and ability navigating in heavily glaciated terrain and avalanche safety certification and backcountry experience is required;
• Well-developed team building and influencing skills; unquestioned integrity; and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address client and business needs and challenge; and
• Solid grasp of the key regulatory drivers within the mining sector, as well as a high degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of impact assessment best practices.
