Job description

Your Job:
• Participation in ongoing work on fully coupled high resolution forecasts with terrestrial systems models, including near real-time applications with data assimilation, as well as research on water, energy and biogeochemical cycles and land-atmosphere coupling as part of national and international projects and collaborations
• Development and extension of new and existing parallel scientific software tools or processing chains with a focus on the integrated Terrestrial Systems Modelling Platform (TerrSysMP)
• Porting and scaling of numerical models, profiling and performance optimizations, testing, standard implementations, code maintenance
• Contribution to solutions of the big data challenge in geosciences, and the application and advancement of data assimilation techniques
• Testing on the latest HPC systems including hybrid architectures, development of optimum use cases for a wide range of HPC systems at JSC

Your Profile:
• University degree in either computer science, geosciences, physics, civil engineering or applied mathematics; a PhD degree and relevant scientific publications are an advantage
• Knowledge in the areas of meteorology, hydrology, data assimilation, numerical methods and especially the modelling of fluxes at compartmental interfaces is a clear advantage
• Experience in high performance scientific computing and modelling preferably in geosciences and ideally with one of the following models: COSMO, CLM, ParFlow, or ICON
• Demonstrated (parallel) programming skills with FORTRAN and/or C/C++ and ideally also Python under Linux
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an international, interdisciplinary team across institutes
• Very good communication and organisational skills
• Very good command of the English language
