Summary

The incumbent (at either Research or Staff level) is expected to develop a vibrant, extramurally supported frontier research program, contribute to exciting team-based EESA projects, and take advantage of world-class experimental facilities at Berkeley Lab. At the Staff Scientist level, the incumbent may serve in a Department or Program Head leadership roles. Active collaboration with UC Berkeley is expected, and may have a formal affiliation with campus.

Job description

What You Will Do:

Develop and utilize novel field methods and experiments with theory to advance understanding of multi-scale, multi-phase behavior of hydrological systems.

Conduct innovative research and publish in peer reviewed and high impact journals

Regularly present findings at major conferences and workshops

Lead or organize conferences and workshops.

Contribute to Lab and Community Professional Service

Collaborate with and/or lead others in groups and forge/lead collaborations across the Area, Lab and with colleagues at external institutions.

At the Staff Scientist level the incumbent may also:

Directly supervise and mentor other professionals, technical support staff, or students in support of independent project(s).

Oversee a Program or Department within EESA

Develop and maintain funding

Have an affiliation with UC Berkeley

Lead and participate in team projects

What is Required:

Substantial research experience in utilizing novel field methods and experiments with theory to advance understanding of multi-scale, multi-phase behavior of hydrological systems

Demonstrated ability to develop and lead an independent research program

Demonstrated record of innovation, impact and originality

Publication record aligned with EESA peers at same level

Demonstrated ability to establish collaborations and interact with members of scientific groups.

Demonstrated ability to write grant proposals and attract support from funding agencies.

Demonstrated ability to conduct independent

Record of successful mentorship and supervision

Excellent oral and written skills.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Hydrology, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Geography or related fields

Postdoctoral experience with demonstrated independent research
