Summary

Water supplies from the Lake Kivu region (Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda) and the Ruzizi River are under a great deal of pressure. This pressure is rising substantially as a result of unsustainable use and inadequate management of resources. The Nexus-based Water Management for the Lake Kivu Region Project aims to promote the integrated cross-sectoral management of resources to support sustainable development in the river basin. To achieve this, the project will adopt the nexus approach, which takes account of the interests of the water, energy and food security sector across the board.

Job description

Your tasks

• Providing expert and administrative advice to the partner organisation ABAKIR (Lake Kivu and Rusizi/Ruzizi River Basin Authority) and other partners



• Devising and implementing measures to drive nexus-based water management forward



• Managing tenders for and steering consulting services



• Implementing financial contributions; planning expenditures and liquid funds



• Writing articles, presentations and publications



• Managing information and monitoring the results of the project



• Coordinating technical details with donors in the area of water, energy and food security



• Providing support with cross-cutting tasks such as event and knowledge management

Your profile

• University-level degree in water management, environmental sciences or a similar subject



• Several years of professional experience in transboundary water management in international cooperation



• Practical experience of working in fragile contexts and experience in the field of conflict and security.



• Basic knowledge of the energy and food security nexus sectors



• Excellent analytical, conceptual and communication skills



• Ability to work independently and willingness to take on responsibility



• Good knowledge of organisational advice



• Fluent business English and French; knowledge of German is an advantage
