Summary

The Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) Science Coordinator will work as part of the NCS Science team within the Tackle Climate Change business unit, implementing and coordinating tasks related to all aspects of the team’s portfolio. Tasks may relate to one or more functional activities, such as financial and operations support, grant management, contracts and procurement, meetings management, special events, knowledge management, tracking internal procedures, training, etc. The Coordinator may also conduct research and analysis tasks as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS





The NCS Science Coordinator will advance the strategic priorities of the NCS Science Team and support TNC’s conservation agenda by implementing tactics for approved plans and completing day-to-day tasks and activities. They may be responsible for scheduling, planning, and execution of logistics for special events and/or regular meetings, purchasing, drafting and tracking contracts, and maintaining team filing systems. They may assist with the recruitment and training. In addition, the NCS Science Coordinator may perform grants and finance administrative tasks, including processing forms, preparing reports, and monitoring and preparing budgets. They will respond to inquiries about program activities, create program materials, and draft correspondence. They will be well versed in the systems and resources utilized by the team in order to execute assigned tasks. They may maintain, track and research data, produce and review reports, and perform analysis. The NCS Science Coordinator will provide guidance in satisfying administrative requirements based on extensive knowledge of policies and procedures. They may provide support and targeted training related to the functional or content area of the team. They will implement processes and practices in order to improve effectiveness. The NCS Science Coordinator will build and facilitate networks by communicating with staff in various programs across the Conservancy, and may also communicate with donors, volunteers, vendors, and business relations. They will communicate or distribute information to assist staff in making decisions, solving problems, and improving workflow.





RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE





Work within scope of program’s strategic goals;

Act independently on assigned tasks and exercise independent judgment based on analysis and experience, referring difficult questions and unusual problems to supervisor;

Coordinate projects with several variables, working within a defined timeline and budget;

Team coordination such as scheduling meetings, setting agendas, documenting outcomes, and other administrative functions;

Communicate on behalf of team with staff in various programs across the Conservancy;

Maintain internal databases for team documents;

Organize special events such as team retreats or workshops, including coordination with external vendors.

Financial responsibility includes purchasing, processing invoices, contracting with vendors, and assisting with budget preparation;

Support for grant management, which may include, but is not limited to, coordinating reporting processes, scheduling and attending meetings outside of business hours, and persistently tracking and synthesizing information from a range of sources in a range of formats;

Ensure compliance with Conservancy policies and procedures, and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements;

Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information;

May provide research and analysis in support of Natural Climate Solutions and Tackle Climate Change priorities;

May act as a resource to others to solve problems and act in supervisor’s stead when instructed;

May supervise administrative and/or volunteer staff, including training and professional development;

Travel and work flexible hours as needed;

Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain; and

Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS





Bachelor’s degree and 2 years related experience or equivalent combination

Experience coordinating or conducting administrative processes;

Experience in writing, editing, and proofreading informational or promotional material;

Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into a cohesive reporting structure

Experience organizing time and managing diverse activities to meet deadlines; and

Experience working effectively across teams and communicating with a wide range of people.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS


Bachelor’s degree and 2 years related experience, or equivalent combination;

Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated;

Experience, coursework, training, or knowledge of current trends in conservation, ecology, or climate mitigation; Ability to analyze information for the purpose of coordinatin
