Summary

The Research Associate position is intended to assist in research activities pertaining to field testing with the black drum fishery as well as research and outreach for additional commercial fishery projects including marine and freshwater. Responsibilities will include; laboratory bioassays; field work; event set up; maintaining equipment on trailer; and interactions with commercial fishermen in Louisiana. The successful applicant would ideally begin January 2020.

Job description

Qualification Requirements: B.S. degree with two year or more of relevant experience in Marine Biology, Biology, Fisheries, Zoology, Agriculture, Aquaculture or related field. Willingness to travel to various locations in coastal Louisiana, possess a valid driver’s license, and a good driving record are required. Applicant must possess experience in some, or preferably all, of the following: (1) Previous experience in marine research is desirable, (2) Ability to work evenings and on weekends, (3) Ability to go on overnight or multiday trips on commercial fishing vessels, and (4) Ability to work independently, create work plans, meet deadlines, collaborate as a team, and work in difficult environments.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
