Summary
The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at San Diego State University (SDSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Coastal Engineering starting August 2020. The successful candidate will contribute to and lead initiatives in the CCEE Department and across the university to improve the resilience and adaptability of coastal communities.

The department is strongly committed to excellence in both research and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants should have a demonstrated record of excellence and/or show exceptional promise for high-quality research, teaching, and professional development that could contribute to one or more of the following areas:
Mitigation of coastal hazards due to a changing climate
Resilient coastal structures and flow/wave -structure interaction systems
Flood prediction and long-term flood adaptation
Remote sensing and other innovative techniques for evaluation and prediction of coastal area dynamics
Applicants must hold a B.S. in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, by the date of hire. Applicants should be active researchers who will develop and maintain an extramurally supported research program, publish and disseminate research findings, and serve as leaders at the forefront of their field. The successful candidate is expected to instruct and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in the classroom and in research.
This position shall meet the requirements of the SDSU Building on Inclusive Excellence Program (BIE). Therefore, applicants must satisfy at least 3 out of the 8 BIE criteria: (1) experience in service with underrepresented populations in engineering, (2) demonstrated knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students and faculty in higher education, (3) experience or demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students, (4) integrated understanding of underrepresented populations and communities into research, (5) extended knowledge of how to achieve scholarly success as a member of an underrepresented group, (6) demonstrated commitment to research that engages underrepresented communities, (7) demonstrated expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration, and (8) demonstrated research interests that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education.
The Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering department is one of the four departments in the College of Engineering at SDSU with EAC, ABET-accredited B.S. degree programs, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. programs (the latter is offered in conjunction with the University of California, San Diego through the Joint Doctoral Program).
