Job description

Requisition ID: 23955

Company

Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh, Vancouver has a commitment to becoming a City of Reconciliation. Vancouver consistently ranks as one of the world’s most liveable cities and is working towards being the greenest city in the world. Named among Canada's Top 100 Employers, BC's Top Employers, and Canada's Greenest Employers, the City of Vancouver seeks colleagues who can help shape and embody our core commitments to sustainability, decolonization, equity and outstanding quality of life for all residents.

Consider joining our committed team of staff and being part of an innovative, inclusive and rewarding workplace.

Main Purpose and Function

Responsible for undertaking modelling analysis in support of development of a Sewage and Rainwater Management Plan (“SRMP”) for Vancouver. The SRMP will form a comprehensive long-range plan to address pollution arising from combined sewer overflow events and urban runoff, along with adapting to climate change, population growth and aging infrastructure. It will help to strategically target billions of dollars in investments in the decades to come.

The SRMP is being developed in close coordination with Metro Vancouver, and much of the modelling work in support of the plan will be utilizing Metro Vancouver’s MIKE URBAN model of major infrastructure components of the Vancouver Sewerage Area (“VSA”), along with discrete models to be developed by the City for representative watersheds within Vancouver. Given this high level of collaboration and use of Metro Vancouver’s VSA model, this position will be working closely with Metro Vancouver staff and will be dedicating a significant portion of time working out of Metro Vancouver’s office (either in-person or virtually). This person will also facilitate information sharing and collaboration between City and Metro Vancouver staff to support coordinated planning across both organization’s collection systems. This position will also be working closely with colleagues within the Integrated Strategy and Utilities Planning division of the City of Vancouver’s Engineering Department.
