Job description

REPORTS TO: The Transboundary Water Governance and Ecosystems Specialist (Project Manager)

DEPARTMENT: Programmes

LOCATION: Beira, Mozambique

CONTRACT: Long-term Consultancy Position, with frequent travel

DURATION: 3 years with the possibility of extension



BACKGROUND


The Global Water Partnership (GWP) is an intergovernmental organisation established in 1996 to support countries in their efforts to implement more equitable and sustainable management of their water resources. The network spans 13 regions with 2,400 institutional Partners in 158 countries. The global secretariat is in Stockholm, Sweden. The GWP Africa Coordination Unit is based at GWP Southern Africa in Pretoria, South Africa and coordinates GWP Africa programmes across Africa. Also, GWPSA hosts the GWP global theme on Climate resilience and is charged with providing global strategic leadership and coordination of the implementation of the GWP strategy on climate resilience.



THE MANAGEMENT OF OF COMPETING WATER USES AND ASSOCIATED ECOSYSTEMS IN BUZI, PUNGWE, AND SAVE BASINS PROJECT


The proposed GEF-funded “Management of competing water uses and associated ecosystems in Pungwe, Buzi and Save basins” will be implemented by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and executed by the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa. It targets the conservation and sustainable use of the transboundary water basins resources, including their risk mitigation components within 3 river basins shared bilaterally by Mozambique and Zimbabwe: Pungwe, Buzi and Save river basins.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS


The Regional Coordinator is required to meet the following criteria:


A minimum qualification of Master of Science Degree or equivalent in an area relevant to transboundary Integrated Water Resources Management
A minimum of 10 years of professional experience, of which at least five should have been in a senior position engaged in planning, management and monitoring of Donor-funded water resources projects
Demonstrable experience in project management of complex projects
Experience in procurement under donor-funded projects or programmes
Experience in Institutional Development will be an added advantage
Fluency in spoken and written English. Knowledge of Portuguese and languages spoken in the Buzi, Pungwe and Save will be an added advantage
