Job description

Otak is looking to hire a Water Resources Designer or Engineer to join our Water and Natural Resources team in our Louisville, Colorado office. This position will be responsible for supporting planning and design projects, completing hydraulic modelling and data analyses, design calculations, writing reports, preparing design drawings and specifications.



Our team specializes in the analysis and design of river, stream, and wetland systems restoration. We also support our Pacific Northwest offices with stormwater management, modeling and planning projects. The selected candidate will work with a team of 10 other water resource engineers and geomorphologists in the Louisville/Denver area on a range of water resource engineering projects for a broad range of public and private sector clients. We work as part of multi-disciplinary teams (including the other disciplines within our Colorado office - transportation and structural engineering, and planning design) to minimize and/or mitigate the impacts of infrastructure development on natural resources. Our projects typically include hydrologic analysis, hydraulic analyses (1D and 2D), river/stream restoration guided by geomorphic principles, diversion design, fish passage design, roadway drainage, flood hazard mitigation, and waterfront recreation.



What You'll Do:

Supporting small to large river restoration and water resources planning and design projects across Colorado
Collect, synthesize, analyze, and present data
Support project designs
Prepare reports for analysis, design, and permitting
Perform GIS mapping and analysis
Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
Perform design calculations
Prepare construction drawings and specifications
Prepare cost and schedule estimates
Support construction engineering and site observation
Work in a multi-discipline, team-oriented environment, be able to meet tight deadlines, and work independently


What You'll Bring:

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a demonstrated interest in water resources or hydraulics.. Master’s Degree preferred.
Must have at least 2 years of previous Engineering experience supporting hydraulic modelling, calculations, and design.
Must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills and strong independent work ethic.
Experience with water resource models including HEC-RAS (1D & 2D), HEC-HMS, SRH-2D, FlowMaster, XP-SWMM, etc.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD Civil-3D.
