A Research Associate position is available as part of a four-year multi-disciplinary project seeking to create the knowledge base, capacity and capability for future in which water-energy system interventions are selected, designed and operated to support resilient and sustainable national, regional and global development under climate change. The Research Associate will lead and/or contribute to water-energy system modelling in FutureDAMS (www.futuredams.org) case study regions using software tools developed within the University of Manchester Water Resources Group. While initially for a period of 6 months, this position has potential to be extended subject to funding.
You should have a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering subject and strong experience of water resources system simulation and optimisation. Owing to the sophistication of water-energy modelling and the required use of high-performance computing, you will need knowledge and experience in Python, mathematical programming, and UNIX high performance computing systems. You should have experience of developing research methodologies and devising models, approaches, techniques, critiques and methods, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills evidenced by a range of contacts in engineering industry/academia and experience of communicating and engaging with high level stakeholders/clients.
