pplications are invited for a Temporary 3 year post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 within UCD School of Civil Engineering

The WateFutures project is an EPA funded, multidisciplinary, research project which started in April 2021. The project, which has Irish and one international partners, is gathering information on the effects of climate change and demographic/social change of numerical modelling tools used in managing water quality in Ireland and will develop, adapt and incorporated appropriate useful models into systems being used by the EPA in responding to the requirements of the Water Framework Directive. The project team and especially this post-doctoral researcher will have a key role in the project.

This project is focused on improving how modelling tools are used to inform catchment management and policy. This position will provide an opportunity to develop and implement new research for water and nutrient modelling across multiple scales. The role will involve, together with other researcher sin the team, developing an in depth knowledge of current research projects and datasets relating to meteorology, climate change hydrogeological flow paths, catchment characteristics, and pollution loading sources. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with a range of key stakeholders and related research projects. The focus of this position will be to:

Develop and implement models of water flows, pollution inputs and water quality for rural catchments
Develop and implement models for urban expansion and its effects on water quality
Liaise with the EPA catchment unit in implementing the above models in their systems. Will be partly based in EPA offices and UCD
assist with scientific reviews of relevant literature, project management, report writing and production of scientific journal articles and project publicity material.


Salary : PD1 - €41,025 per annum & PD2 - €45,942 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
