The Role

We are seeking a Research Assistant/Associate to continue the development and application of a scalable, transferable, platform for integrated climate change risk assessment. The work will focus on water security risks, to enable hydrological and hydraulic modelling to be deployed, and integrated with other models, to evaluate climate risks in different scaled catchments in the UK and around the world. You will have experience of undertaking model-based climate risk assessment, using climate data, handling geospatial databases, code development, and use of Docker and Cloud Computing technologies.

Job description

The Role

We are seeking a Research Assistant/Associate to continue the development and application of a scalable, transferable, platform for integrated climate change risk assessment. The work will focus on water security risks, to enable hydrological and hydraulic modelling to be deployed, and integrated with other models, to evaluate climate risks in different scaled catchments in the UK and around the world. You will have experience of undertaking model-based climate risk assessment, using climate data, handling geospatial databases, code development, and use of Docker and Cloud Computing technologies.

You will work as part of a team on the NERC funded OpenCLIM project that is developing the next generation of UK climate change risk assessment modelling tools. The post is based in the internationally leading Water Group in the School of Engineering but will work collaboratively with researchers from many other disciplinary backgrounds from Newcastle University, the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.

The post is available on a fixed term basis, for immediate start the post is funded until end of March 2023. However, we anticipate the opportunity to extend the post on other projects.
