Job description

We are looking for a flexible and self-motivated Research Associate to work within the experimental group of the Milner Therapeutics Institute's Centre for Pathway Analysis (CPA).

The Milner Therapeutics Institute (MTI) is a purpose-built research Institute at the University of Cambridge, located on the Cambridge Biomedical Research Campus, within the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre built in 2019. The overarching vision of the MTI is to harness academic excellence to accelerate the drug development process and convert pioneering science into novel therapies. The Institute provides a unique working environment, with start-ups, academics and pharma companies working side by side at the bench. Working across multiple therapeutic areas, it has one of the largest concentrations of expertise in functional genomics at the University, with access to a breadth of expertise in technical development and screening across academia and industry.

Based in the growing experimental group of the CPA, you will design and drive forward the experimental work for a number of target identification and validation projects, with a strong focus on oncology. The CPA is focused on the development and application of disease relevant, complex human cell models therefore experience with specialist human tissue culture (e.g. primary cells, stem cells, co-cultures, 3D assays), molecular biology and gene editing techniques is essential. Prior experience in the use of live cell imaging, flow cytometry, confocal/high content imaging or high throughput assay formats is highly desirable. You will collaborate with experimental and computational team members, as well as participating in external collaborative opportunities. You will have the support of the MTI Head of Target Discovery and MTI Head of Computational Biology.

This is a dynamic and exciting role that offers career development opportunities, including responsibilities as Biological Safety Officer for the growing Institute as well as the possibility to line manage/or train more junior staff. The ideal candidate will be educated to PhD level in Biological Sciences, although candidates without a PhD but with equivalent experience will also be considered. More detailed information on the requirements of the role can be found on the further particulars.
