Summary
This is a tenure-track faculty position in Environmental Science focusing on physical and chemical processes in soils. The successful applicant must be enthusiastic about teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (introductory and advanced soil science, wetland soils, soil and water conservation, environmental pedology, soil genesis and classification, and the fate and transport of contaminants) and must be capable of building a strong, externally-funded research program. The position involves mentoring students at the undergraduate and graduate levels and engagement in departmental and university service. The applicant must demonstrate institutional citizenship through active engagement at the department, college, university, community, and professional levels. The purpose of this hire is to build strength in the areas of soil science.

The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. (post-doctoral experience is preferred) and demonstrated teaching and research experience in soil or sediment biogeochemistry, sediment transport and/or pollution, or a closely-related field within a science-based program. Skills that include the application of molecular tools in environment, aqueous geochemical analysis focusing on organic pollutants (PAHs, chlorinated solvents, MTBEs), inorganics and environmental tracers (e.g. isotopes, CFCs, noble gases), and modeling of sediment transport and/or the fate of contaminants will be advantageous. Successful candidates must be committed to working effectively with diverse student populations and in interdisciplinary teams. Applicants are expected to describe their commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment through their research, teaching, and/or service activities.
